Some garage door problems can wait for a convenient appointment. These cannot: a door stuck fully open on a house that is now unsecured, a car trapped behind a door that will not lift, or a commercial frontage that cannot be locked at closing time.
What counts as an emergency
- The door is open and will not close — the house or unit is open to anyone
- The door is down and will not open and a vehicle is needed
- A snapped cable has left the door hanging crooked in the opening
- The door has come off its track and is jammed part way
- A commercial door will not secure at close of business
What to do while you wait
If the door is stuck open: pull the red release cord to disconnect the opener and see whether the door will come down by hand. If a spring is broken it will not, and forcing it is dangerous — if it comes down at all it may come down fast. If it will not close, move anything valuable out of the garage and secure the internal door into the house, which is often the weakest lock in the building.
If the door is stuck down and a car is inside: do not keep running the opener. If a spring has gone, the opener cannot lift the door and each attempt damages it further.
If it is off track or a cable has snapped: stop entirely. This is the fault that gets dramatically worse and more expensive with every button press.
What we can usually do on the first visit
Broken springs, snapped cables, off-track doors and disengaged trolleys are all things that can normally be resolved in one visit — those are the parts that get carried. A failed logic board on an uncommon opener, or a replacement section for a specific door, may need to be ordered; in that case the priority is making the opening secure and usable in the meantime.
Being honest about timing
We cover the whole GTA, and traffic across it is what it is. You will get a real answer on how long we will be rather than a promise designed to get you off the phone. If we cannot get to you quickly, we would rather say so than leave you waiting on a door that is open all night.
