Chow Chow Garage Doors is a garage door repair and installation business working across Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area. Five years of it, on everything from laneway garages in the old city to loading dock doors on industrial units.
How we quote
You get the likely cause and a price before anyone drives out. Garage doors are unusually diagnosable from a description — the noise, the movement and whether the opener runs narrow it down a long way — so there is no good reason for the first number you hear to arrive after the work has started. If the door is opened up and it is something else, you hear that and what it changes before we continue.
Why springs go in pairs
Springs are rated in cycles, and both springs on a door have done the same number. When one breaks the other is at the same point in its life. Replacing only the failed one means a second callout within months, which is worse for you and, frankly, looks bad for us. So they go in pairs, and where a door is used heavily we will suggest higher-cycle springs and explain the arithmetic.
What we will talk you out of
Not every door is worth repairing. Rusted-through bottom sections, several damaged panels on a discontinued model, or a failed board in an opener old enough to predate rolling-code remotes — in each of those cases the repair approaches the cost of doing it properly, and we would rather say so before you have paid for a patch. A business that only ever says yes is not being helpful.
Residential and commercial
Houses, townhouses and condo garages, and the commercial side too — rolling steel shutters, sectional doors on service bays, and dock doors. Commercial doors cycle far more often than residential ones and need parts rated for it, which is a distinction a lot of quotes quietly skip.
